The effort to save and restore Highfield Hall
has been characterized by amazing community support and the
willingness of countless volunteers, who rolled up their sleeves
and did whatever it took to make the dream come alive. Now,
as Highfield Hall takes its place as Falmouth's center for
arts and culture and a treasured historic site, volunteer support
is more critical than ever. It is said that an army runs on
its belly. Likewise a non-profit organization depends on its
volunteers. Our volunteers fuel our efforts with amazing kindness,
talent and generosity.
- Front Desk Volunteers - We are always looking for friendly
front desk volunteers. Highfield Hall is open Monday through Friday from 10 am
to 4 pm. During those hours we must have a volunteer staffing
our front desk to greet visitors, answer questions, and
help direct people who come for programs and other activities.
The shifts are 10 to 1:00 and 1:00 to 4 and we encourage
volunteers to select a regular shift -- but will also gladly
welcome volunteers who can only work occasionally. Please email Janet
Totten, Deputy Directory, to find out how you might join
our volunteer team. A "Fundamentals for Volunteers" training
session is required before serving at the front desk. Below
are some additional volunteer opportunities.
- PR -- Do you have a way
with words? Like to write? We need assistance writing and
submitting press releases to area media. You will be provided
with a basic format and given supervision about submitting
and managing the releases. This can be done from home quite
easily. Please email Barbara
Milligan for more information.
- Photographer -- Do you
take great photos? We always need photographers to help us take photos of our programs and events. Please email Barbara
Milligan for more information.
- Videographer -- As
in the above, we need someone who can take videos of events,
functions, and activities at Highfield Hall for use on
our website, in video productions, and to post on YouTube.
- Docents --
Our Interpretation Team members help us provide guided
tours of the mansion and its grounds for special occasions,
group tours, and for our monthly estate walks. Please
email Barbara
Milligan for more information.
- Gardeners --
Our Master Plan for the restoration of the gardens and
grounds is now in hand. Prepared by well-known Landscape
Preservationist Lucinda Brockway, the plan offers many
opportunities for volunteers to assist in the clearing,
planting, and rejuvenation of the historic landscape. We
can always use help as well tending to our existing plants
and doing spring and fall cleanups. Please email Barbara
Milligan for more information.
- Special Events --
Highfield sponsors three fundraising events each year,
and we need hundreds of volunteers to make these events
happen. Volunteer support runs from simply working for
a shift at one of the events, to serving on the organizing
committee. This year's events include the Holidays at Highfield, Glories of the Garden, The Holiday Ball (Committee membership is full!) and the Falmouth Road Race. Please email Barbara
Milligan for more information.
